Worthington Place History

The buildings comprising Worthington Place were originally constructed by the Blake & Knowles Steam Pump Company beginning in 1889. Blake & Knowles achieved national recognition for the innovative water pumps it designed and manufactured. Acquired by the Worthington Pump and Machinery Corporation in 1916, the company nearly doubled in size during World War I as it adapted for U. S. Government wartime demand, almost every ship board pump for WW I was manufactured here.

In the year 1942 United Carr Fasteners acquired the buildings. It began as a maker of canvas fasteners for carriages, and later for upholstery and canvas work on automobiles,

In 1969 United Carr was acquired by TRW Corporation but continued to occupy the buildings. TRW scaled down production over the following years and sold the buildings to Worthington Place Associates LP for conversion to residential use.
